Rihanna rocks gold gun earrings in London

It has been a busy few days for Rihanna who rocked several controversial styles during her weeklong visit to the capital.

As Londoner’s basked in the mini heat wave Rihanna rocked in white as she boarded her Viano set for Manchester.

The superstar who likes to push boundaries complimented wearing white with gold accessories. Not content with just your average pair of earrings, with the spotlight focused on the Bajan superstar Rihanna maximised her media coverage by sporting a pair of earrings in the shape of handguns.

Taking time-out from her Diamonds Tour, Rihanna found time to experiment.

“Grey is the new black,” exclaimed the superstar as she exited the hotel on route to Birmingham wearing a barely there see through mesh ensemble.

Miss Universal Carnival Queen UK lunches in London

Celebrating the Culture, Couture and Theatrics of Carnival Arts!

On Monday 15th July 2013, one of Soho’s newest cocktail lounge bars– Bitter Sweet – played host to a celebration of the culture, fashion, beauty and artistry of Carnival, with the media launch of the Miss Universal Carnival Queen UK Show 2013 in partnership with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts and Yaa Asantewaa Arts & Community Centre.

Carnival in the UK is too readily associated with civil disorder and chaos. This production of Carivog International will challenge this head on by creating a performance platform to highlight how the Masquerade, Music and Movement of Carnival Arts are expressed through performance and creativity.

Miss Universal Carnival Queen UK is a production of Carivog International, the organisers of Miss Trinidad and Tobago UK. The seventeen contestants representing countries where Carnival is celebrated will compete for the coveted title of The Miss Universal Carnival Queen UK. They will be judged in three main categories – The Carnival Costume, The Carnival inspired Evening Gown and Scavenge Couture. Within each category the artistic contribution by the contestant as model, the designer, constructionist and hair and make-up artists will be assessed. In staging this inaugural event, Carivog International will strive to:

  • Provide an international performance platform to celebrate all aspects of Carnival Arts
  • Provide Carnival costume builders an avenue to showcase their individual queen costume on stage in a more formal setting
  • Provide a showcasing platform for other creative artistes – models, designers of fashion and accessories,  makeup and hair artistes and members of the performing arts
  • Showcase the Diasporic Carnivals of each contestant
  • Be a catalyst for creating awareness of a career in the arts

The show takes place on Saturday 10th August 2013 at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts, Luton. Tickets are on sale now.

Sheanna Alleyne, The Producer of the Show, stated: “Today, carnival has fostered the concept of one global village and as people of the world meandered from their homelands to all parts of the globe creating world cities, we will celebrate this diversity through the festival of carnival. The fashion. The artistic excellence. The beauty. The performance.”

Tickets for this event is available from the UK Centre for Carnival Arts or by contacting +44 (0)1582 437 111. For interviews and further information about the event please contact: Melanie Peterkin-Philip, Media & Marketing media@carivog.com
