Jasmine May Crowned Miss Jamaica UK
Seventeen year old student Jasmine May has been crowned Miss Jamaica UK at the prestigious Miss Jamaica UK pageant show in London, England. The 5’10 Beauty Queen has family that resides in Portland in Jamaica.
Jasmine describes herself as being ‘extremely independent’ and credits her families influence in instilling a desire to ‘achieve through hard work and dedication.” Jasmines hobbies include: Singing, boxing, photography, reading and spoken word, and makeup artistry.
After enduring three competitive rounds which included Casual, Swim, Evening wear plus an additional Talent and General Knowledge round, the seventeen year old stunner Jasmine May was crowned Miss Jamaica UK 2015.
Pageant CEO June Dailey said: “The caliber of contestants was extremely high and the judges deliberated for some time. I’m sure Jasmine will make a huge contribution as an Ambassador representing Jamaica.
“Miss Jamaica UK is considered a springboard to a variety of careers. Whether it’s self-esteem or for professional interests Miss Jamaica UK continues to support, educate and advice throughout.”
The day started early for Miss Jamaica 2016 contestants who arrived at midday in central London to run-through their routines for a final time.
The intricately choreographed routines resulted in a visually stunning display of elegance and style. The young women achieved a level professionalism beyond their years,” exclaimed Patrick Weir from Flyer Newspaper.
Key to Jasmine’s success was her rendition of Jamaica’s National Anthem which was described by some as ‘Simply stunning, Awesome, Uplifting, Beautiful to name just a few comments. The impact was immediate and Jasmine raised the audience to their feet and the rest you could say is history.
Speaking exclusively to Flyer Newspaper Jasmine May said: “When my name was called I became very emotional.
I still haven’t come to terms with it yet to be honest. I feel honored, proud, excited and looking forward to using social media as a platform to speak out on some of the issues I feel passionate about…
… I will definitely take a few days off to reflect on this experience but for now I’m very excited at the opportunity to fulfil my role as an Ambassador for Jamaica.
Outgoing Miss Jamaica UK Rianna Simmons said: “I’ve had an amazing year and met some amazing people. Miss Jamaica UK has been going for over 26 years and is the oldest pageant and also the most distinguished within the UK Caribbean Diaspora.”
The crowd certainly has their favorites but the beautiful rendition of the Jamaica’s National anthem by 17 year old Jasmine May brought the crowd to their feet and the rest you could say was history.
The caliber of the participants was extremely high and the Judges took a considerable amount of time to choose the six semi finalists.
Stunning Rica Kelly was awarded first runner up and according to judges there was very little to choose between the contestants. Chrishauna Champaignee was crowned the 2nd runner up.
