Janelle Fraser triumphs at Miss Trinidad UK
Over one thousand people packed into the Tabernacle in Notting hill to see Janelle Fraser crowned as Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK 2012.
Miss Trinidad & Tobago’s UK (Miss T&T) pageant show had plenty to celebrate, not only is Trinidad celebrating its 50th year of Independence but it was also Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK’s 10th Anniversary.
It was a fantastic night of fashion live entertainment and beauty as seven contestants competed to be crowned Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK 2012. The event was sponsored by Western Union and Caribbean Airlines saw Janelle Fraser eventually crowned as the new Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK 2012 title holder.
The hotly contested competition proved very difficult to judge. There were only 12 points separating the 1st and 3rd position.
Janelle Fraser (Miss Maracas Valley, St Joseph) took first place on 82 points; Azaria Gairy Newbolt (Miss Port of Spain) came second on 76 points and Leana Maya Jackson (Miss Vissingy) third on 70 points.
The newly crowned Janelle Fraser in her first interview spoke exclusively to Flyer Newspaper following the results: “When my name was announced it was absolutely amazing, the first thing that came into my mind was my uncle who I owe everything too. He brought me up basically.
I was nervous before the show but as the show progressed I told myself to just enjoy myself and to breathe.”
When asked if there was anything Prime Minister David Cameron could learn from Trinidad & Tobago Janelle said: “Our motto in Trinidad is Together we aspire Together we achieve. As a nation Trinidad is so united in terms of our cultures and race which does make me proud to belong. I would tell David Cameron to bring people together as one.”
CEO of Miss Trinidad and Tobago Angela Cox said: “I would like to personally thank everyone involved over the years. All these people who have been here to support me, I thank them. They are my family.
Outgoing beauty Queen Leona Sylvester said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. My advice to Janelle is to make the most of every experience and to use the experience to grow as a person.”
