Neville and Doreen Lawrence sat close to the dock where the accused Gary Dobson and David Norris will face trial. The defendants stand accused of the murder of their son Stephen Lawrence who was stabbed to death at 18 years of age. The accused Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, from south London, plead not guilty to the murder.

In June 2011 Flyer Newspaper was restricted on reporting the sequence of events which has lead up to today’s trial. Mark Weir from Flyer said: “It’s  so often the case that Flyer Newspaper stands alone in representing Britain’s diversity on such momentous occasions, where were all the other minority media publications today?”

A-level student Stephen Lawrence was 18 when his life was brutally cut short when he was set upon by a gang of white youths in Eltham, April 1993. It was reported at the time, the attack was racially motivated.

The trial set before Mr Justice Treacy, will be opened by prosecuting counsel Mark Ellison, QC and expected to last until Christmas. Stephen Batten, QC will be representing David Norris and Timothy Roberts QC, is defending Gary Dobson.
