Gangs defy police patrol to kill in broad daylight

(Temporary post)  Despite a Police surveillance team being in vicinity gang members brazenly opened fire on a crowd of people in south London killing a 21 year old man Azezur Khan (a.k.a. Ronnie), 21 from south east London and injuring another.

Ronnie, 21 from south east London is believed to have attended a funeral nearby when he was shot near to the junction of Forest Hill Road and Rockells Place SE22.

Flyer’s reporter said: “These gunmen held no respect for human life, judging by the size of the bullet holes in shops and nearby bollards Ronnie had little chance of survival. It was a miracle that no one else was killed.”

Police were called shortly after 3.pm, Thursday 3 November to reports of a shooting. London Ambulance Service also attended and on arrival found Ronnie lying in the street suffering from gun shot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Speaking at the scene Police Commander David Zinzan said: “The incident happened in broad daylight at a time when there were lots of people in the area leaving a funeral nearby. At least 50 people had recently attended the funeral of 17-year-old car road traffic collision victim Joel James Lee Morgan which had just taken place at the nearby cemetery.”

Police also confirmed that the area was under surveillance at the time of the shooting however they do not believe Ronnie was the intended victim or to their knowledge had any previous history with gangs.

Another male, aged 17, was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle. He is in a stable condition.

The incident happened in broad daylight at a time when there were lots of people in the area leaving a funeral nearby. At least 50 people had recently attended the funeral of 17-year-old car road traffic collision victim Joel James Lee Morgan which had just taken place at the nearby cemetery. Officers arrested four people in connection with the incident. They were taken to a south London police station and have now been bailed to return on a date in late November.

[B] a 17-year-old girl bailed until a date in late November to a south London police station.

[C] a 20-year-old man bailed until a date in late November to a south London police station.

[D] a 17-year-old girl bailed until a date in late November to a south London police station.

An incident room has been opened under Acting Detective Chief Inspector Brian Lucas from Trident.

Commander David Zinzan, responsible for south east London policing commented: “Following the shooting in East Dulwich on Thursday afternoon, extra officers have been drafted into the area and surrounding boroughs to reassure the public and make it clear to anyone even considering being involved in violence that it will not be tolerated.

“Our priority is to bring to justice those responsible for this horrific shooting and to prevent any further incidents from occurring over the coming days.

“A significant number of witnesses have come forward and detectives from Trident have been working around the clock to gather evidence and piece together exactly what occurred and identify those responsible for this outrageous act. Trident received strong community support while carrying out inquiries in the area last night, which continue today.

“Policing plans are in place across south London to prevent and deter violence and other crime from occurring and to provide reassurance to the public as they enjoy Bonfire Night celebrations over the weekend. Historically this is a time of the year that the Met steps up police activity, targeting crime traditionally associated with seasonal events.

“Detectives from Trident are working closely with borough officers and local authorities to gather and share any intelligence and will continue to update our partners in the local authorities as the investigation progresses”
