UK talent unite to combat cancer

Recording artists Lisa Maffia was joined by vocalist Su-Elise for the Race For Life fundraiser on Clapham Common.  Taking party also was Team Maffia, Victoria from Miss Nigeria UK and Alize from Miss England 2011.

Lia Maffia and Su Elise indulged in some last minute exercises ahead of the fundraising  race in Clapham Common, London.

Under starters orders the duo strike a pose.

With the time for talking over, Lisa gets off to a flyer.

Before the race began, Lisa Maffia explained her personal circumstances and the motivation for her participation today.

Lisa said: “I’ve never imagined that cancer would affect anyone in my life and even though its not my own health affected it feels like its happening to me!”

“Earlier this year my mum went for a routine checkup and in April was diagnosed with cervical cancer and it has unfortunately also spread to other parts of her body. The shock of the bad news has changed my whole life and I still can hardly believe the reality of the situation. I cry day and night about losing my mum.

I constantly worry about her condition and the painful side affects.  The fact that I can’t do anything to take it away is why I’ve decided to take part in the Race for Life this year…

Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.”

Su-Elise is amongst the first to cross the finishing line. Su Elise and her family were representing their Gradmother in their efforts to raise awareness and cash to fight against the illness.

Recently crowned Miss England 2011, Alize Mounter was amongst the top ten of an estimated 500 strong field!!

The Miss England title holder Alize Mounter who lost her grandparents to cancer at an early age said. “My grandmother and grandfather died of cancer at a very young age I’m hoping to raise funds and awareness of combating cancer.”

Also taking part in the 5k fundraiser today was the stunning model Victoria Ch-Chi Okafor.

Chi-Chi is also the current Miss Nigeria UK 2010/11 title holder.

“There’s been an amazing turnout today and the conditions were quite hot for running. Today is all about making a difference and raising funds,” said Chi Chi.

Jaycee from Relax Kids was also hoping her contribution would impact on the fight against Cancer. (Relax Kids uses relaxation techniques to help children recognise their strengths and manage their emotional journey through life).

Jaycee who put in a sprint to the finishing line said: “Today was all about raising funds to combat cancer. The atmosphere today has been fantastic but cancer can affect anyone at anytime.”

The finishing line was an emotional experience for Lisa and Team Maffia.

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Race For Life fundraiser today.

My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find many of your post’s to be what precisely I’m looking for. Would you offer guest writers to write content for you personally? I wouldn’t mind producing a post or elaborating on a lot of the subjects you write related to here. Again, awesome website!
