The Caribbean Island of Jamaica has been hit with some of the worst floods for nearly five years. Early reports are that five people are confirmed dead and many more people may have lost their homes and possessions as the death toll rises.

Houses across many parishes have simply been washed away, many more are still without electricity and communication networks are also down in some areas. News will be filtered throughout by FLYER Newspaper.

A local resident who contacted FLYER confirmed our report: “Five people are known to have died but there are possibly more.

This rain was in fact worse than most hurricanes we have experienced in the past five years in terms of the damage that has occurred. Possibly all parishes have been dramatically affected, many homes washed away. Many areas still have no electricity. Last night when it was raining there was an attempted robbery close by here.

Opportunist seeking to benefit from the freak weather were shot dead by the police. The police were quick to respond and they killed two robbers as they attempted to escape in Mineral Heights, May Pen.
