Even before the last stone and the last bottle is thrown, the British public demand answers from the Government as to why the city was placed under siege and what plans they have to create a sustainable peace.

Casting our eyes back to last Thursday, the bungled shooting of 29 year old Mark Duggan, triggered the most violent uprising the UK has seen in over 30 years. The subsequent violence has brought shame on the UK in the eyes of the world.

Whilst many splinter groups may have shifted their focus away from the route cause, Mr Duggan’s death, the chain of events that followed was however predicted even if the eventual outcome was beyond anyone’s wildest comprehension.

Flyer Newspaper’s teams have been working throughout this period, reporting from the frontline, Downing Street and behind police cordons.  Whilst we have witnessed the absolutely deprived side of human nature we have also witnessed the rotten apples however minor still exist within the Metropolitan Police Force.

For example a female constable in Clapham Junction said yesterday: “Some people would rather we were using petrol rather than water canons when confronting rioters.” However funny this quip may have sounded to her she showed a complete lack of empathy amongst the people she was talking too.

As Flyer has said before, the role of self-appointed community leaders must be reviewed. Mentoring schemes are extremely effective and successful business leaders are vital in inspiring young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in London.

What were the trigger points?

It’s too easy to write off poverty, youth disaffection and cuts to youth services in playing a significant part in these uprisings but neither can you ignore these facts.

1. Teenagers as young as nine being stopped and searched.
2. Some GCSE students were stopped and searched by police between exams.
3. Teachers are reporting a significant increase in school children from disadvantaged backgrounds arriving with inadequate clothing for the day.
4. High profiled sportsmen such as Linford Christie and Dalton Grant continue to be stopped and searched.
5. As the cuts bite, there has been a significant increase in young people stealing sustainable food such as sandwiches.

It would appear that a high number of teenagers not affiliated within gangs but who shared a common grievance of alienation within society were more likely to partake in this crises than those that weren’t.

David Cameron commented after Chairing a meeting of the Cobra committee.

 “Water cannon – until now only ever seen in the UK in Ulster – will be available at 24 hours notice to deal with the “despicable violence” being carried out in cities across the country.

And in a sign that other more draconian crowd control measures will now be at the disposal of the police he said: “We will do whatever is necessary. Nothing is off the table.”

Cameron added: “There are pockets of society that are not only broken, but frankly sick… It’s a complete lack of responsibility in parts of our society, people allowed to feel that the World owes them something.”

In response, editor of Flyer Newspaper Mark Weir said: “You cannot just put a lid on a pressure cooker and hope that the problem goes away however deplorable the scenes we have all witnessed.

 It’s in society’s interest that we look to find a solution and not a scapegoat.”

A mother told Flyer News: “I literally had to physically wrestle my fourteen year old son back into the house. He has never been involved with gangs before but he has been stopped and searched. He received a message that something was going down in Lewisham and felt compelled to go and see,” she said.

Poverty also found a place in these demonstrations. Tottenham MP. David Lammy said in a previous interview with Flyer Newspaper; “Public sector cuts are really going to hurt, politicians must display tremendous empathy with their constituents that they represent.” Ironically this crisis will be the biggest tests of MP David Lammy’s career.

Lib Dem / Conservative cuts are biting communities. Racism in the private sector forced many workers to join the public sector where it was assumed they would be insulated from racism in the work place. Huge cuts to the public sector purse have effectively threatened to switch the clocks back to the mid eighties in terms of rising unemployment and community cohesion.

Young people across the UK face an uncertain future.

1. Cuts to public services
2. Tuition fees beyond reach
3. lack of job opportunities and apprenticeships
4. Rising unemployment
5. Society which stigmatises the young, single mothers and the sick

Whilst this is no excuse for any of the violence which are now associated with the tragic chain of events there are issues that need to be brought to the table if we are to overt the apocalyptic scenes that Flyer Newspaper’s  reporters have been witnessed over the past four days.

There were chaotic scenes in Westminster yesterday when News Corp. chairman-CEO Rupert Murdoch, his son James and News International CEO Rebekah Brooks were summoned by the British Parliament committee investigating his hacking scandal.

As the Worlds media descended on the steps of Parliament to catch a glimpse of News Corps CEO Rupert Murdoch, they were unaware of the fact that CEO Rupert and James Murdoch, Rebekah, were being directed to a side entrance.

The Murdoch’s and Brooks were quizzed by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee to shed light on evidence given to the committee, where executives had said News Corp.’s U.K. newspaper unit News International had paid police.

Former Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and John Yates, the former assistant chief constable at the Met also faced questions and were pictured by FLYER arriving at court via a side entrance. They were whisked through to an underground car park.

In a twist not even the News of the world could conduct, CEO Rupert Murdoch had a plate of foam sprayed in his face. His wife came to his defense and attached the assailant. 

“Murdoch is lucky to have a wife who doubles as a bodyguard. Multi-tasking skill is 1 of the best things about being a woman.” Tweeted model /DJ Tolula Adeyemi.

Mark Weir from Flyer said: “The speed of events has taken everybody by surprise. The hunters have now become the hunted. Reporters following Rebekah have said; ‘She has taken every effort not to be pictured.’ Rupert Murdoch said; ‘The News Of The World represented only 1% of his business.” He also said “This was the most humble experience of his life.” However journalists following the case have pointed out that perhaps the apology to the parents of murdered school girl Milly Dowler should perhaps have been his most humble experience.”

As the finger of suspicion reches the stepsof Downing Streets, some people are even placing best on whether the Cameron’s close dealing with NOTW could lead to his own downfall.

London was on lock-down as the World’s most powerful man, President Barack Obama and his First Lady – Michelle Obama arrived in Downing Street, England for talks.

A red carpet was rolled out and No.10 was given a final polish. The President and his wife were met at the front of N0.10 by Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha Cameron.

From the outset the Obama’s cut a powerful presence and both David and Samantha’s attempts to mask their insecurities proved unsuccessful. “It was as if David Cameron was going for a job interview, he looked slightly in awe of the American’s presence.” said Flyer reporter Mark Weir.

The meeting at No.10 lasted for half an hour before the President and Prime Minister Cameron went for a drive leaving First Lady Michelle and Samantha Cameron to get acquainted. However the body language told a different story, ‘Obama was clearly a class above.’

Speaking in parliament a few minutes ago  Barack Obama said: “We are united by our ideals and not by our differences.” However the notion that immigrants are defined by ideals and not race will draw debate.

Plus sized models moved a step closer to appearing on the runways of London Fashion Week when they took to the streets to gauge public support for their campaign in Covent Garden.

David Cameron was facing further isolation in London as quarter of  a million Londoners defied his rhetoric that ‘Multiculturalism doesn’t work’ when they turned out to join in the Chinese New Year celebrations in Central London.

Attracting over 250,000 global visitors, The Chinese New Year celebrations in London is the largest Chinese cultural gathering outside of Asia.

Visitors to Chinatown and surrounding areas soaked in the sights and sounds of some spectacular celebrations – with performances from both traditional and contemporary Chinese artists, food stalls, firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “New Year is one of the most important dates in the Chinese calendar but it’s also an occasion that everyone can get involved with. Our celebrations give everybody the chance to experience Chinese culture and see what Chinatown can offer – all year round. The event has grown from a small local event to welcoming over quarter of a million people last year. Plans are underway with Chinese New Year 2012 set to be the first major cultural event of the Olympic year.

Flyer’s Mark Weir who attended the Chinese celebrations said: “David Cameron’s comments are unwelcome here in London and the mass turnout, quarter of a million people, prove emphatically just how out-of touch he is with Londoners.

In less than a year London will host the 2012 Olympics, in which we will be welcoming the world. His comments are short-sighted and insulting to Londoners.”

Liberal Democrat MP Nick Clegg spent the day reflecting on his failure to entice the British electorate. Ironically MP Clegg’s supporting vote will decide which party will forms the new coalition government.

As neither the Conservatives nor the Labour Party emerged with the overall majority a coalition government is the only option.

Speaking outside of the Liberal Democrats headquarters in Westminster, Nick Clegg MP said he would talk firstly to the ‘party which achieved the largest public vote.’

There was chaos when Nick Clegg arrived, Press teams jostled to get a frame of the defeated Nick Clegg whose allegiance to either the Conservatives or Labour will decide who forms the ruling party.

David Lammy MP retained his seat as Labour MP for Harringey and Tottenham.

But there was no such joy for MP Dawn Butlet, who has been ousted from her seat in Brent Central by Liberal Democrat candidate Sarah Teather.

Teather gained 1,345 more votes than Butler in a contest that saw a 11 per cent vote swing in favour of the Liberal Democrats.

Butler had previously been an MP for Brent South before boundary changes forced her to contest the Brent Central seat. She was the third black woman to become a British MP and was also minister for youth citizens and youth engagement.

Dawn Butler however was the only MP who did not respond to any emails sent by FLYER Newspaper throughout this election campaign.  It is likely however that Miss Butler’s expenses which were among a number of questionable claims by whips uncovered by The Telegraph, significantly impacted on her re-selection chances.

With less than eight hours to go before polling begins, an eleventh hour campaign launched on Facebook could well swing the balance in Labours favour.

FLYER Newspaper’s survey has revealed that the voting will be far closer than the polls have revealed. With only one national newspaper openly supporting Labour, the media bias is understandably pitched to the right, however despite this one-sided media focus David Cameron’s Conservative Party has gained very little ground since the election date was announced. undetected and under-represented the cyber community will cast the last dice.

Immigration and integration has been a hot topic during this election. Neglected however has been the Facebook community that propelled Barack Obama to the white-house and stopped X-Factor’s Joe McElderry from reaching the top spot.

The minority vote which also could account for over 126 seats propelled by the Facebook generation will cast the last dice in what has become the most important decision facing a generation for decades. If you vote with your heart and not with the media your decision could determine your community’s future.

With the election looming political parties have suddenly woken up to the fact that many of their own futures could be determined by the collective voting power from the black electorate.

You could say in fact that they’re running scared.

Today, all three political leaders will be meeting at Westminster Methodist church at 6.30pm to try and put forward their cases to attract the black electorate. This is your chance to be part of the biggest political rally this campaign has ever seen. There is no excuse; your children’s futures will rely on the decisions made today.
