Speed king Tyson Gay brushed aside all opposition to win the 100m final at the Samsung Diamond League/ AVIVA Grand Prix in London. Gay’s winning time of 9.78 seconds despite the cold windy conditions has set a bench mark and will send alarm bells ringing across the Caribbean as Usain Bolt and Asafa Powel struggle to keep pace with the man in form.

Allyson Felix who only took up the sport four years ago to make friends at college has seen her career blossom. Known as Chicken Legs (originally) because of her lean frame Allyson has achieved silver at the Athens Olympics. Allyson is also an ambassador for Barack Obama’s campaign to tackle child obesity.

Here in London Allyson proved a class act above the rest winning the women’s 200m race comfortably in a time of 22.37 seconds.

Allyson Felix who describes herself as being deeply religious always prays with her mother before races. Following her race she said: “That was good, I was really just focusing on executingt he race and not so much on time because the conditions weren’t that great.

“It’s been a bit of a strange season and I found out that I’m a better Championship runner. You lose the motivation not having those people to run against but I just had fun with it and enjoyed the season. I’m really looking forward to the next two years. It’s great competing here, knowing that 2012 is just around the corner.

There was no such luck for Jamaican Sherone Simpson who finished third in a time of 23.04.

Blanka Vlasic, High Jump Women – Winner proved to be too much for the competition. Crowd pleaser Blanka raised te bar to 2.01 metres, a clear 10, cm above second placed high jumper Ruth Beitia from Spain.

Blanca said: “I was worried when I came here because it was bad weather and cold and everything. I have a fear of wet surfaces to jump on so I’m happy I beat that field today. It was a big challenge for me, you saw those girls out there – it wasn’t easy, but the crowd really helped me a lot. I’m happy, but by the end I couldn’t feel my legs it was so cold.”

It’s tough being a pop-star, especially when you have to spend the day lounging around on a giant sofa and signing autographs but for these girls it was business as usual.

The Saturdays, Frankie Sandford, Rochelle Wiseman, Una Healy, Vanessa White and Molly King  were in town as part of T-Mobile’s Big Sofa Night In advertising campaign.

Arriving at Westminster Methodist Church in London, PM Gordon Brown was determined to get the final week of electioneering off to a flying start.

Things were about to take a turn for the worst when a protester stormed the stage. Armed police units rushed to the Methodist Church and media teams were primed for action.

Despite carrying on with his speech Gordon Brown was visibly affected from this latest political ordeal.

“There is no doubt that this campaign as it enters its final days has taken more out of PM Brown than any of the opposition.” said a staff reporter at the event.

David Cameron is snapped arriving at the Methodist Church in London but did not recieve the applause which was awarded to Gordon Brown.

New Kid on the Block -Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg also arrived at the Methodist Church and spoke of the “moral drain on our conscience from criminals.”

The final week will be whether ‘Come-back Kid’  Brown can dislodge smooth talking PR Man Cameron.

The Gumball Rally rumbled into London for the first leg of the inter-continental journey. Stretching over 3000 miles and taking eight days to complete, the stars were seen revving up their engines in Piccadilly, London today.

Stars from the celebrity world taking part this year included; Xzibit, Eve, Jodie Kidd, Caprice, Michael Madsen, DJ Muggs, Jade Jagger, Idris Elba, Tony Hawk.

The rally departed from London today, May 1 before visiting Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Boston, Quebec City, and Toronto and will end in New York on May 7.

The pre party event was held in The Crypt in St Martins Lane, Covent Garden. Rapper Eve and Xzibit arrived at 10.30pm and left early. However Eve confided that she was feeling a little worse-for wear and refused to take off her sunglasses the next day.

Xzibit however nearly missed the photo-cal as he was spotted signing autographs several miles away from the start.

Suffering from a sprained ankle from playing football Idris Elba (Striger Bell The Wire) arrived at the event on crutches. It took Idris several minutes to get into his car.

Wearing African print leggings, Egyptian bangles and chequered finger nails, Eve added a touch of star quality to this event.

Donning a pair of wedged Cubans complete with gold crusted sovereigns on her fingers, Eve formed part of an all-female line-up of drivers.

Driving a Bentley convertible GT, Eve made sure that at today’s event the Car was most definitely NOT the biggest star on show today.

N-Dubz, Dappy is however counting the cost of his alleged affair with his backing dancer Georgia. Georgia who reportedly received XXXX payment from her kiss and tell story in one tabloid newspaper and recent shoot for Heat Magazine ran away from the paps in London this week and refused to comment.

Dappy was however fuming over allegations made in the Sun Newspaper. His best friend said; “Dappy generally doesn’t mind reports about him in the press but to suggest the mother of his child was banned from coming to his homecoming party was a complete fabrication.It caused a major argument. Kaye is always welcome she is the mother of his child.” Georgia is a model/dancer signed to Charles and Ko model agency. Dappy wasn’t the only celeb suffering a bout of the blues, Beverley Knight was spotted in Victoria looking rather concerned, she was out celebrating the Taiwan New Year and her mothers Birthday. Our spy said she sang only two renditions of Happy Birthday but she was very good!

Seems like Beverley is quite normal after all unlike one celeb who appeared to be in hiding.

We spotted Gabrielle in Park Lane and we’re not sure if she spotted us or she whether she was trying to keep her hat from being blown away.

This coming week has the largest Black Vote march in London the UK has ever seen, communities across the length of Britain are descending on the capital for one day, updates on Sunday.

Day two of Alternative Fashion Week continued to build on the success from the opening day. With the spotlight firmly on London’s designers to deliver, today’s collections included designs from Hackney College, 4.2morrow, Charlie Chambers, Stacey Richards, CoolTan Arts, Prilly Lewis, Kimberley Startup, Hayley Tresize, Georgia Nash and West Thames College.

Models began arriving at the shows at 10.am. Backstage, make-up artists and stylists were briefed by designers whilst models hoped to be dressed in the ‘killer outfit.’

At 1.15 sharp the designers were introduced to the press.

Tuesday saw some fantastic design collections but the ones that stood out for FLYER included; Charlie Chambers who described her collection as ‘That Indie look’.

Combining reclaimed vintage clothing to maximum effect the show was a big hit with the knowledgeable crowd.

Kimberley Startup’s collection was fun and was a celebration of childhood. Her collection was themed Come On Now Kimi Grow Up.

Prilly Lewis (Prillywear) added a touch of maturity and sophistication.

The models sashayed down the runways with effortless ease.

Hayley Tresize’s collection of quirky recycled couture had substance and was a very well thought through.

This collection had class and integrity.

Saving the best till last was Georgia Nash.

Her designs inspired by ‘The Nutcracker‘featured a very personal selection of couture garments that were both innovative and diverse.

This collection had everything and at times was reminiscent of the flamenco and the matador.

The sign of a great design is when the models genuinely love the outfits they were wearing.

“If she, Georgia Nash can keep this level of creativity going she will undoubtedly reach the top” said a FLYER Newspaper reporter.

Georgie Nash’s attention to detail stood out from the crowd.

For some residents in North London enjoying the tranquillity of the elusive British summer, the sight of a Royal Navy helicopter prompted people to believe to air embargo had already ended.

Sun-seekers in Regents Park were stunned when a Royal Navy helicopter landed on the common just before 4.pm on Sunday afternoon.

Early reports indicated that a person had suffered a heart attack however the seriousness of the incident meant that a Royal Air force helicopter was scrambled rather than the usual air-ambulance minimising the risk to the public.

Edmund Hayden who had been playing football said: “The police told us that there was a serious accident and we would have to abandon our game of football. Half an hour later the helicopter landed. It felt really strange as I’ve not seen any aeroplanes or helicopters for over a week.”

Less than two miles away Eurostar in London was inundated with desperate travellers trying to make their way home by rail after abandoning their attempts to fly following the volcano in Iceland.

In the media room the focus of attention shifted towards fashion as the two celebrity guests Sabrina Washington and Shingai Shoniwa entered the media room.

OMG Sabrina Washington looked sensational with her leopard print semi-cropped hair style. Natural makeup complemented with a black sequined Gucci -styled dress was the perfect combo for this star studied showbiz bash.

Shingai Shoniwa is an English singer of Zimbabwean descent and best known as the vocalist and bassist for the UK indie rock band Noisettes. Her first name, Shingai (Shin-GUY) means ‘persevere’ in the Shona language.

Black Sequins seemed to be the order of the day; the beautiful Shingai never fails to impress and the two ‘Divas’ new they were to be the star attraction.

Wearing a classic cut black sequined dress; Shingai Shoniwa has become a style icon in her own right. Her attention to detail is immaculate that has become her hallmark.

African traditional wear also featured heavily on the red carpet at NDORO. Danai, pictured in blue wears a design from House of Khumalo.

Following a report by FLYER Newspaper in January 2010, Mattel have responded by providing FLYER Newspaper’s readers with exclusive pictures of the new ‘So in Style’ range of Black Barbie Dolls which will be available in Selfridges and rolled out across the UK this week!

FLYER reported that during December 2009 hundred’s of women were denied an opportunity to purchase the Black Fashionista Barbie for their children because of a perceived short-fall in demand. Two weeks before Christmas there weren’t any Black Barbies in the Fashionista range available in stores such as Argos, John Lewis, Hamley’s and Selfridges. Infact they had completely sold out of their stock in the south-east of England.  FLYER’s research also revealed that some stores had not been replenished until well into January if at-all…..

Turf Wars

Imagine our surprise when two kings of the bovine world squared up in-front of a FLYPIC’s camera man over a hot-piece of prime turf.

“I was with my daughter visiting the farm when this unexpected scrap took-place.” said Mark Anthony- cameraman. The two animals both went for the same piece of grass and began eye-balling each other. The goat was quarter of the size of the cow and I thought the goat would back down. Both animals took a few paces back then charged.

The goat, realizing that the odds were firmly stacked against it made a side-step and delivered a powerful blow to the side of the bovine beasts head sending it careering down the hill. Astonishingly the goat then ran after the cow and appeared to bully it.

Matthew from FLYER said “This proves that even in the animal kingdom it’s technique that counts…”

The small man with the big heart - He Pingping dies age 22.

At just 74.6cm (2ft 5in) tall, the world’s shortest man, He Pingping, has died in Rome. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago after suffering a chest complaint and died last Saturday, but his death has only just been announced.

Mr Pingping was in the Italian capital to take part in the filming of a television programme called The Record Show. FLYER met with He Pingping in London where he was officially confirmed as being the worlds smallest man in 2008.

He Pingping posed with Svetlana Pankratova, from Russia who has the world’s Longest Legs, Speaking through his interpreter He Pingping, 22 said: “I’m prone to losing body-weight rapidly therefore I have to keep in close contact with people to stop me from getting hyperthermia.”

People who attended the Cat on a Hot Tin Roof – ACLT charity event were left disappointed when the cast ran to their cars and failed to stop and sign autographs.

One fan said: “We’ve been out here in the cold for over two hours, I don’t understand why they’ve treated us like this….James Earl to his credit sat in his car but we still had to pass our autograph books though the window.  Phylicia Rashad on the other-hand appeared to be on the phone, she had no time for nobody…”

The only person with any credibility here today is Ex Sugababe Keisha Buchanan who genuinely appeared to appreciate her fans – ‘Big up the British’.

Kaya Scodelario who appeared on the red carpet of Shank with her ‘boyfriend’ Elliot Tittenser from TV hit series Shameless were so  concerned that their relationship would draw attention away from the film premier they tried desperately hard to keep their hands off each other during the world premier.

A Public Relations person was over-heard saying – “Try not to be pictured together as this might draw attention away from the film.” They tried and they tried but…..it must be love.

From the quirky to the edgy, like them or loathe them but you can’t avoid them, the front row celeb is considered almost as important as the collection.

So who really did rock during London Fashion Week?

If there was a prize for ‘The most visited shows’ then Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts would’ve achieved first place. She was mobbed by fans and then posed for some pictures with representatives campaigning for more models from diverse backgrounds.

Keeping it in the family, Peaches and sister Pixie Geldof daughters of Bob Geldof shared their time equally. ‘FLYSPY’ spotted the girls at Henry Holland, Pam Hogg and Unique but we suspect they visited many more. Pixie was joined by pals Alexa Chung and Remi Nicole at Unique.
