African Fashion lights up London
Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) was established in 2011 and has already been credited as the largest African Fashion inspired showcase in Europe.
From its humble beginnings AFWL festival continues to showcase the vast talent from the Africa and beyond.
Founder Ronke Ademiluyi said: “AFWL provides a platform for establishing, promoting, encouraging and celebrating emerging African inspired designers.”
“Africa is rich in culture, traditions and creativity. There are few places outside of the continent where you can get a taste of Africa but for thee days in August the worlds media converged on London,” commented Patrick Weir from Flyer News.
Some people predict that the future in fashion is in Africa. The synergy between the collections and the music was up-lifting. The happy vibes also played a positive role with regards the fashion press and buyers.
“Today’s been very positive, sales have been good and we’ve made a lot of connections,” said International shoe designer Dionne Gooding who was showcasing her new collection.
With so much expectation and the World’s media present, AFWL 2013 certainly had a lot to prove.
The engine room behind the scenes which included the backstage staff, Mahohgany Production and Fashion Fair kept the event running effortlessly smoothly. There was nothing but happy vibes backstage as the models supported one another.
There were many highlights at AFWL 2013 some of which included a fantastic collection by DiDi Creations Ltd and Elegante by Tiannah Styling.
International fashion model Rachael Williams was amongst many profiled guests who were spotted at the AFWL collections.
