African pride reigns supreme in the capital
Kenyan athletes practically rubber stamped their place on the podium of the Olympics 2012 with a display of long-distance running that has sent shock-waves throughout the sporting world.
“It was not just the margin of victory, the complete destruction of a quality field will be talked out for years to come,” said one reporter.
Kenyan athlete Mary Keitany was the first of three Kenyans to secure the top spots on the podium. Mary’s winning time of 02: 18:37 seconds was over a minute faster than her team mate Edna Kiplagat who finished second in 02: 19: 50. The third place also went to a Kenyan athlete Priscah Jeptoo who finished in 02:20:14.
In the men’s category with a punishing two minute margin of victory over fellow Kenyan Martin Lel, Kipsang Wilson (Kenya) decimated the quality field to win in a time of 02:04:44.
The star of the party however was not the athletes or Prince Harry but Mary Keitany’s young son.
Not content with holding his mothers winning trophy the youngster also wanted to hold the flowers too.
Now as we all know most men can’t really multi-task and this attempt ended in disaster as the flowers headed directly towards the floor.
