Ex Eastenders actress wins top music award

One of the UK’s most popular female actresses, Preeya Kalidas was awarded Top Female artist at the UK Asian Music Awards 2011.

The UKAMA’s (Asian Music Awards) is recognised the world over as one of the premier music events of the year.

Picking up this award Kalidas said: “This award means so much, I’ve worked so hard for this and it was a great surprise. This is actually the first award I have won.”

Apache Indian from Hansworth, awarded a Lifetime Achievement award said, “I’m speechless and this award would not be possible without the support of my backing band and the people of Hansworth. Growing up I was influenced with the fusion of Reggae and sound systems. Hansworth is a unique place in which many groups have benefitted from cross-cultural influences.”

On the theme of cultural crossovers Alesha Dxon who recently appeared on the cover of Asian Women magazine wore a traditional Sari to the award ceremony.

In a recent interview Alesha is reported to have said: “I would even consider marrying an Asian man just to wear these clothes.”
