Thousands of people took to the streets of Notting Hill as Carnival fever gripped the captial city.

After months of planning Notting Hill carnival was awash with the colours of the Caribbean as Notting Hill Carnival 2010 rolled into town.

Sunday, children’s day would appear to have now passed without serious incident although some sites out pointing to the contrary. We will update should there be any further news. So far 55 people had been arrested for minor offences.

Police are however advising people to be vigilant for pick-pockets and not too take their dogs to carnival this year. Chief Inspector Jo Edwards said: ‘The Met’s message is a clear and simple one – come to carnival to have fun and enjoy this wonderful cultural experience, but don’t come to cause trouble.

‘While carnival is open to all, we would advise dog owners to leave their animals at home – dogs and carnival do not mix, it’s not fair on the dogs or carnival-goers.

‘So come to carnival and enjoy everything it has to offer, but we’d like to see visitors and officers go home safe and sound.’

Speaking exclusively to FLYER News last week, Caley Salandy from Mahogany arts said: “Our theme is ‘Celebrate the World’.

We’ve studied different aspects of nature through various cultures and explored how they represent their art forms. As we move ever closer to the Olympics in 2012 when every nation will be represented here in London, Mahogany celebrates the character of our world through the arts and culture of the many people of the world.”
