Speed king Tyson Gay brushed aside all opposition to win the 100m final at the Samsung Diamond League/ AVIVA Grand Prix in London. Gay’s winning time of 9.78 seconds despite the cold windy conditions has set a bench mark and will send alarm bells ringing across the Caribbean as Usain Bolt and Asafa Powel struggle to keep pace with the man in form.

Allyson Felix who only took up the sport four years ago to make friends at college has seen her career blossom. Known as Chicken Legs (originally) because of her lean frame Allyson has achieved silver at the Athens Olympics. Allyson is also an ambassador for Barack Obama’s campaign to tackle child obesity.

Here in London Allyson proved a class act above the rest winning the women’s 200m race comfortably in a time of 22.37 seconds.

Allyson Felix who describes herself as being deeply religious always prays with her mother before races. Following her race she said: “That was good, I was really just focusing on executingt he race and not so much on time because the conditions weren’t that great.

“It’s been a bit of a strange season and I found out that I’m a better Championship runner. You lose the motivation not having those people to run against but I just had fun with it and enjoyed the season. I’m really looking forward to the next two years. It’s great competing here, knowing that 2012 is just around the corner.

There was no such luck for Jamaican Sherone Simpson who finished third in a time of 23.04.

Blanka Vlasic, High Jump Women – Winner proved to be too much for the competition. Crowd pleaser Blanka raised te bar to 2.01 metres, a clear 10, cm above second placed high jumper Ruth Beitia from Spain.

Blanca said: “I was worried when I came here because it was bad weather and cold and everything. I have a fear of wet surfaces to jump on so I’m happy I beat that field today. It was a big challenge for me, you saw those girls out there – it wasn’t easy, but the crowd really helped me a lot. I’m happy, but by the end I couldn’t feel my legs it was so cold.”

There was a shock result of the evening when Lolo Jones was beaten into third place by Canadian Precilla Lopes-Schleip
